In the beginning of 2023, Greentec signed a turnkey contract of rotor sail system retrofitting with a prestigious shipping company for their newcastlemax bulk carrier, providing a total solution covering engineering, equipment procurement, installation and commissioning, etc. As world’s first rotor sail retrofitting project for newcastlemax vessel, it marks a great stride of Greentec in cultivating green shipping market and promoting its service transformation and upgrading.
With EEXI/CII regulation taking into effect on Jan 1st 2023, decarburization and emission reduction has become a primary task in shipping industry. As one of the effective methods, wind assisted propulsion system starts to be an important choice for ship owners. For this turnkey project, the rotor sail system Greentec purchases comes from a renowned European manufacturer whose equipment takes the lead in the industry. According to the performance analysis of real ship, the rotor sail system could help vessels achieve around 20% fuel saving, improve their CII performance as well as reducing operating costs.
The good idea of rotor sail could be traced back to its long history. In 1925 an inventor Anton Flettner harnessed Magnus effect and verified the feasibility of flettner rotor. Nowadays, with the growing attention of international community to decarburization and emission reduction and incremental in-depth study and research in this filed, the application of this technology to ships has entered a new stage. As a pioneer in green shipping technology, Greentec has provided a professional turnkey solution for thousands of vessels, gaining a wide recognition and praise from global clients. Looking into 2023, Greentec will continue to practice its mission of Green Our Sea By Technology and make a greater contribution to shipping industry!
